The Staff Accountant is responsible for executing core accounting operations with a strong focus on accuracy, timeliness, and compliance. Together with the Senior Accountant, this role owns key components of the month-end close, including journal entries, account reconciliations, and general ledger maintenance, and ensures financial data integrity across systems. The Staff Accountant also supports audits, maintains documentation for internal controls, and partners with cross-functional teams to resolve discrepancies and improve accounting processes. 

This position is required to be in the office 3 days a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Our office is located in the Merchandise Mart in downtown Chicago, IL.  

What you’ll accomplish:

  • Assist with the preparation of financial statements
  • Support and manage Accounts Payable (A/P) and Accounts Receivable (A/R) functions, including employee expense reports and collections processes
  • Record and process invoices accurately and timely
  • Participate in monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities
  • Assist with P&L analysis and basic financial reporting
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation
  • Provide outside auditors with assistance; gathers necessary account information and documents to perform annual audit.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support internal and external objectives
  • Contribute to process improvements and team projects as the business scales
  • Maintain and analyze balance sheet reconciliations according to deadlines
  • Prepare and analyze intercompany transactions
  • Manage sales and use tax for the organization including reconciliation against collection. Ensure reconciliation and documentation is supported monthly and payments must be timely. Ensure all entities are compliant and in good standing
  • Assist with monthly and quarterly sales commission calculations and accruals
  • Communicate with customers and vendors about accounting related topics

What we’re looking for:

  • 3 - 5 years of experience in a related accounting or finance role
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • CPA or CPA Candidate Preferred
  • Experience assisting with financial statements and general accounting processes
  • Familiarity with A/P and A/R workflows
  • Exposure to close cycles (monthly, quarterly, yearly)
  • Experience analyzing P&L statements
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including intermediate Excel skills
  • Experience with QuickBooks and Netsuite or a similar ERP system
  • Experience with Salesforce, Avalara, Ramp, Captivate IQ, and Domo a plus, not required
  • Knowledge of multi-state tax laws and compliance requirements, preferred
  • Experience with international entities, intercompany activity, or multi-currency environments is preferred.
  • Tech or e-commerce industry experience is preferred
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • A natural curiosity and eagerness to learn and grow

The pay: 

PerkSpot offers competitive industry rate salaries with the goal of retaining and growing talented individuals. We regularly review and adjust our compensation structure as needed to ensure equity and across teams and levels. The base salary range for this position is $75,000 - $80,000 plus a $2,000 annual bonus.
